How to transpose a song
- Paste the chords and lyrics into the box. Lines that contain only chords are transposed; lyric lines stay untouched.
- Press + or − to move the song up or down by half steps. Chords stay above the same words.
- Choose sharps or flats, or leave it on automatic to follow the spelling of the new key.
- Copy the result and print it or paste it into your notes.
How does a capo work?
A capo clamps across all strings and raises their pitch. With a capo on fret 2, playing a G shape sounds as A. That lets you play songs in hard keys like E♭ or B♭ with easy open chord shapes.

Capo 1 with D shapes, or capo 3 with C shapes. The capo table shows all the options for any key.
